EXPERT EPOXY FLOORING

Industrial Epoxy Flooring

Industrial epoxy flooring is less of a design choice and more of a value added option. Luckily, you won’t have to compromise on either when using epoxy! Whether you’re upgrading commercial kitchen flooring or production facility flooring, epoxy offers an extremely durable, resistant, and aesthetically pleasing choice to any industrial facility.

We understand that the primary goal of any industry is that the flooring system they choose is safe, cost effective, and easy to maintain. Epoxy remains the leading material for concrete coating due to its strong properties that put it leagues above the alternatives.

Industrial Flooring Systems

Industrial flooring systems are systems custom made for the industry they are being applied into. Here at Expert Epoxy Flooring, we primarily use epoxy flooring systems as they have proven to be the most durable, cost effective option on the market.

Epoxy flooring systems include the following major benefits:

  • High Durability

  • Resistant to water/moisture

  • Resistant to most chemicals including some acids

  • Resistant to spillage and statins

  • Easy to maintain and clean

  • Large array of designs and finishes to choose from

  • Much, much more!

As you can see, an epoxy flooring system accomplishes a large variety of the needs for many industries. This wide berth of use cases comes from the chemical makeup of epoxy. Epoxy is created by combining a resin and a hardener that come together to form the final product known as epoxy.

The resin is initially “unstable” with a large variety of molecules all moving around and ready to “break”. When the hardener is introduced, the resin’s molecules finally snap and then recombine with the positive and negative forces of the hardener.

This results in that multitude of molecules forming super long chains of combined molecules known as polymers. This huge web of interconnected polymers creates an extremely strong complex that is what we come to know as fully hardened resin. This process is what gives it its out of this world properties that contractors and hobbyists have learned to love.

Needless to say, if you have untreated concrete in your facilities, then moving towards a coating solution is the best way to avoid the high costs of replacing or repairing your floors.

Where to Install Industrial Epoxy Flooring

Now that you know a lot more about the benefits of epoxy, you may be asking yourself where does it work best? While epoxy flooring is well suited for both indoors and out in either residential or commercial properties it really shines in an industrial space. Here are a few examples of how epoxy can be used in the most common industrial buildings.

Warehouse Epoxy Flooring

Industrial sites are where safety matters most and warehouses are no exception. Our clients have found that adding striped epoxy or those with anti-slip helps them achieve their safety goals without breaking the bank. What’s more, this coating can cover an entire warehouse floor without the need to make accommodations as it seamlessly flows into every corner of the space.

Factory Epoxy Flooring

Our epoxy installers are trained to work with your factory leads to minimize downtime and maximize the safety and durability of your existing concrete floors. Once applied, it takes just a couple of days to fully dry before the space is available again. Once dried, you’ll notice the longevity, ease of cleaning spills and stains, and even its ability to resist the strain of heavy machinery with ease!

Manufacturing Facility Epoxy Flooring

Manufacturing facilities typically have a combination of vehicle and foot traffic making epoxy flooring a huge win over traditional, untreated concrete. Adding striped epoxy can even assist with designating loading zones, workflow, or hazardous areas so there is no guess work for your factory workers. You can even customize break or lunch areas with solid or metallic epoxy to create a nice welcoming feeling as your hard workers take a break!

How Can We Serve You?

The Importance of Industrial Concrete Coating

As mentioned, concrete coating isn’t necessary but really does increase the overall life and longevity of your concrete floors. Most industrial buildings feature concrete as its primary building material so chances are high that your floor is made of it as well.

Concrete is a very durable material on its own but suffers from staining, discoloration, cracking, and other general wear and tear issues over its lifespan. Unlike in a residential space however, breaks/cracks in the material can lead to code violations and liability issues if not addressed as soon as possible. This means that should a crack, chip, or hole develop, you’ll be calling a concrete contractor multiple times a year to repair or replace the concrete. That cost adds up very quickly.

Adding a concrete coating to warehouse flooring for example, immediately extends the lifespan of the concrete it’s applied to! Not only will it gain the aforementioned benefits of epoxy but also be protected against the wear and tear that comes from daily foot traffic or heavy machinery. It even gains some protection from direct impact damage such as a tool or heavy item being dropped onto it.

Generally, the lifespan of a concrete floor in an industrial space is about five years or less however when a coating is added, this lifespan shoots up to a decade or longer as the coating takes the abuse. Instead, you’ll be looking to replace the coating every three to five years to ensure it retains all of its benefits which is a far faster and less expensive process. Types of Industrial Floor Coatings

While industrial epoxy coatings, including those installed over food industry flooring, all have the same great benefits, the second consideration that most business owners have are its aesthetics. Epoxy coatings come in a wide variety of colors and types with some having more use for industrial buildings than others.

For example, a board room may benefit more form a solid epoxy colored to a single tone to not distract from the presentation, while a showroom needs to draw a crowd so a metallic epoxy coating would do the job. Each of these options are just the tip of the iceberg as depending on your need, you can find something that fits the room and floor you’re installing into. Here are some examples of what previous clients have used:

Garage floor with newly coated white epoxy

Solid Epoxy

Solid epoxy colored blue to accent off of the white walls for warehouse flooring.

Shiny, blue and white flecked epoxy flooring with light reflections in an empty room with white walls.

Flake Epoxy

Full broadcast flake epoxy added to the steps leading into the building to give investors a feeling of importance as they make their way to a meeting room.

Marble Epoxy

Marble epoxy added to the CEO’s office giving a refined look without breaking the bank on traditional marble floors.

Solid polished concrete coating for a commercial building

Striped Epoxy

Striped epoxy used in the parking garage to guide visitors to the elevators.

While not every company needs a high level of flash from their flooring system, having the option to do so makes epoxy a great choice for any type of sealing needing to be done.

Industrial Floor Sealing

Coating and sealing are synonymous but there are different types of sealers out there. Epoxy is one of the most durable sealers on the market and is the gold standard for good reason. It’s non-toxic and ecofriendly but also provides a level of protection no other topical sealer can claim.

Topical sealers are materials applied to the surface of concrete that adds a protective layer between it and the harmful elements outside of it. This prevents direct interaction with the concrete immediately extending its life as well as adding the benefits it requires.

Epoxy has proven to be a great choice for industry floor sealer as it can also be adjusted to be anti-slip in case of spillage or moisture and even UV ray resistant in areas where UV or the sun is regularly applied. This ability to expand its functions doesn’t stop there though.

Industrial epoxy coating is seamless meaning it can be applied to every area you can see. This leaves a smooth finish, with no ridges that can cause issues, and ensures every inch of concrete is fully protected. For those who do care a bit about the look of their facility, this is a double win as the high protection of epoxy is spread everywhere within a room rather than just a rectangle or square shape starting from the center.

FAQ's

Epoxy coating is a great option for all of these areas! Garages in particular benefit from epoxy’s resilience to chemicals such as gasoline and motor oil. Even better, you can clean these up super quickly thanks to the seal applied to all our epoxy floor installations.

While the initial investment for epoxy flooring definitely varies by the amount of square footage needing to be coated, our customers have all found that the long term benefits all offset this initial cost. To directly answer your question, epoxy flooring is generally not very expensive short term and when weighing its long term benefits is well worth the money.

Of course! Every building material on the market has both pros and cons to its use. While we have demonstrated its pros, a few of the issues we’ve heard from customers are that the floor gets a lot colder in the winter due to its heat resistant nature, walking on epoxy can be a little louder due to its high level of hardness, and if not treated for it, epoxy flooring can have issues with UV radiation.

If any of these are a concern for you, please don’t hesitate to give us a call and we can discuss it with you.
